How we help

Our mission is to provide a clear path for people across the country to support recovery efforts. Ninety percent of all funds raised go directly to victims and on-the-ground organizations, with only ten percent allocated for operational costs. Our advisory board is entirely volunteer-based, with no funds allocated to personnel.

Where it all began

Daniel Kilgore was born and raised in northeast Tennessee and spent his college years in Boone, North Carolina. After ten years in the NFL—eight of them in San Francisco—Daniel felt compelled to create a clear pathway for thousands inspired to make a difference for the victims of Hurricane Helene.

FAQ

  • How are your funds allocated?

While it is our heart and mission for 100% of the funds that we collect to go directly to victims and on the ground organizations, our organization is currently under the umbrella of another 501C3 who charges a fee to sponsor our programs.   While they help us setup our non-profit, they recieve 10% of the funds that we raise.

  • Do you have a Board of Directors

While our 501C3 is in process, we operate under the umbrella of a 501C3 call "Summit Leadership". Summit requires The Kilgore Hurricane Relief Project to have an advisory board during this formation period.  Our advisory board consists of the following members:

    - Daniel and Megan Kilgore founded the Kilgore Helene Relief Project to raise resources and awareness for those affected by Hurricane Helene in East Tennessee and Western North Carolina. Daniel spent years in the NFL, including eight seasons on the West Coast with the San Francisco 49ers, two seasons in Miami with the Dolphins, and one season with the Kansas City Chiefs. Born and raised in East Tennessee and having spent their college years at Appalachian State and East Tennessee State, Daniel and Megan are dedicated to mobilizing the country to support the communities that shaped them.

    - Jordy and Lyndsay Whetsell lead the creative vision for our project, combining their passion for visual storytelling with a deep commitment to serving the community they call home. Together, and in collaboration with photographer Madeline Trent, they are dedicated to bringing "The Kilgore Helene Relief Project" to life and sharing its story with the world.

    - Jerry and Belton Caldwell are deeply committed to their community, bringing decades of dedication and leadership to their efforts. Over the past 25 years, Jerry has risen from an intern to serve as President and General Manager of Bristol Motor Speedway, where he met Belton. Through her family’s involvement at the track, the Bristol chapter of Speedway Children’s Charities (SCC) was founded, further cementing their shared commitment to making a difference.

The Caldwells are active members of numerous civic and religious organizations, working tirelessly to make Tennessee the most foster care and adoption-friendly state. Recently, their family collaborated to establish the Northeast Tennessee Disaster Relief Center at Bristol Motor Speedway, providing critical aid to those impacted by Hurricane Helene. Residing in Jonesborough, Tennessee, Jerry and Belton are proud parents of six children and are always ready to step up when their community is in need.

It's worse than you think

Put simply, Upper East Tennessee and Western North Carolina are not accustomed to hurricane-related natural disasters. There was no way to prepare for the devastation that unfolded. Entire communities have been washed away—hospitals, large businesses, homes, and much more.

Essential services like power and water suffered severe damage or complete destruction, with some systems requiring a complete rebuild. Hundreds have been confirmed dead, with hundreds more still missing. Many communities may never fully recover.
